Ring Ring Rouge are an alternative/indie band from Burnley, Lancashire signed to Jack to Phono Records. Described as “a band with an obvious and unique talent” by Woho-Music.net, the four piece have impressed audiences across the North West and West Yorkshire with their intensely atmospheric sound and instrument swapping live performances.Formed in the late summer of 2010, Ring Ring Rouge set about crafting a distinct and intimate sound inspired by bands like The National, Radiohead, Interpol and Modest Mouse and swiftly recorded an enthusiastically well received debut EP. The band’s early shows included runs to the finals of two North West ‘battle of the bands’ competitions and prestigious slots on the Hebden Bridge Trades Club’s Christmas Unsigned and the Prestwich Shangri-La arts festival, with Ring Ring Rouge’s effortlessly melodic guitars, punctuated rhythms and soaring vocals catching attention. In the Spring/Summer 2011, Ring Ring Rouge took a break from playing live to expand on their progressively developing sound and returned to venues across East Lancashire in the Autumn with a stirring new set that caught the attention of London based independent record label Jack to Phono.

Vinyl’s stubborn refusal to die is one of the more surprising (and gratifying) outcomes of the many revolutions that have overtaken the music industry in recent years. Its ability to survive, nay thrive, is celebrated this Friday with a new monthly night in the south-west dedicated solely to the 7-inch version of this much-loved format. Resident and host Scott “Boca 45” Hendy will be expanding from his usual breaks, soul and hip-hop agenda to play anything from disco, 50s rhythm’n’blues, ska, 70s funk, dub reggae and rock. Each month, a special guest will be helping Hendy out, and the first is PJ Harvey’s producer, band member and collaborator John Parish. This is a rare chance indeed to see John dust off his vinyl collection and showcase the music that inspired a colourful and eventful 30-year musical career. It all takes place in the Thunderbolt, a homely pub-cum-live music venue, which should help generate the required jukebox house party spirit.
The Thunderbolt, Bath Road, Fri 2nd of March
John Mitchell
