How many bands can you think of that run their own book club? Most fans go to a show expecting to hear music. Aside from the library of books The Seal Cub Clubbing Club bring along for fans to take away or contribute to – and their super tongue twister of a name, The SCCC also deliver music – amazing music, as you will hear on their debut album “Super Science Fiction” – out 27 April 2009.
Recorded under the guiding hand of producer Barney (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, and the Enemy) and following on from two limited edition self titled EP’s recorded by Paul Tipler(Stereolab, iForward, Russia!, 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster), “Super Science Fiction” is a smartly diverse collection of songs “that veers dangerously close to being unlistenable without actually becoming so”, the band tell us.
In the shortest time since they first came together on the Wirral Peninsual, this enigmatic Liverpool 5 piece have been on tour with The Fall, British Sea Power, Field Music, Black Wire, Brakes (twice) and Idiot Pilot, enjoyed support from the likes ofSteve Lamacq, who brought them in for interview on his BBC 6 Music radio show and played Glastonbury 2008.Not to mention the tons of books they have digested to date…
For this album, the media uptake is brilliant. “Dawn Lamb” together with other tracks have been broadcast on BBC 1 byRob Da Bank and Huw Stevens, XFM by John Kennedy andBBC 6 Music by Marc Riley and Gideon Coe, who is having them in for a live session to be aired 7-9pm on 9 April. Reviews are appearing in The Word, The Fly, Disorder, Rock Sound, Artrocker, and Subba Culture, among others. Full photo feature interviews are starting to come in, with Maps Magazineand London Tourdates getting on board early.
