Phase 5 Stereo is a quirky funk project from the UK (south coast & Up North). Consisting of Simon Ham (bass, guitars, & production)and Jo Brooks (hammond organ & various keyboards), alongside aselect collective of musicians, vocalists and a scratch dj.
Heavily influenced by library (KPM, DeWolfe, Bosworth),soundtrackcomposers of the 60’s & 70’s, and Hip Hop Phase 5 Stereo adopt a modernist approach to this tradition. Combining vintage sounds & instrumentation with samples and topnotch production into a genre defying melange of musical styles. From hip hop, funk and jazz to soundtracks, latin and beyond.
Kicking off with a heavily horn drenched Afrobeat Instrumental“A Two And Afro”followed by the spooky cinematic funk of “I Want You “Raskins Shank” an Up beat latin flavored funk workout.If you want to express your individuality though dance then make sure your equipped with the Bossa Nova tinged “Beauty And The Beat”If the deep aural battered jazz of“Loose Bullet” doesn’t do it for you then “Out For The Count” will with its off beat bounce and pungent baselines. “Need It Now” mixes driving funk and hip hop with a fresh side order of swampy disco while “Get Together” nails stripped downbeat wonkiness with a melodic chorus’and top vocals.“8 Track”is a unique musical trip that echoes the past and looks ahead to the future – but is right here right now.
